At least 12 devotees who were immersing a Ganesh idol in the Tungabadra river on Wednesday are suspected to have drowned in Karnataka's Shivamogga district after their boat capsized. The News Minute reported that the vessel was carrying more than 20 people.

The rescue team has found one body in the river so far. Witnesses told the publication that the incident took placce around 1.30 pm. Videos captured by witnesses show several people swimming to the site to rescue the victims, The News Minute reported. Five of the boat’s occupants managed to swim back to shore.
