A Madhya Pradesh resident set himself on fire on Wednesday in front of Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav's convoy, protesting against the leader's alleged involvement in the Vyapam scam. The man was reportedly demanding that Yadav, whose term ended on Wednesday, be arrested.

A video posted by ANI captured the incident taking place as Yadav's vehicles left the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. Security personnel doused the fire. According to a UNI report, the protestor was taken to the nearest hospital.

The Vyapam case is related to alleged irregularities in various entrance and recruitment examinations conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board, also known as Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal. The scam came to light in July 2013, and was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation for investigation in 2015.

Since then, the investigation agency has registered 112 cases against more than 2,000 accused, including high-level officials and politicians. Yadav was also booked by the Special Task Force in connection with a forest guard recruitment scam in 2015. He escaped being penalised as his gubernatorial post gave him immunity against criminal prosecution.
