Arvind Kejriwal mobbed by BJP protestors at a railway station in Delhi
A video shows the chief minister surrounded by women workers of the saffron party, who raised slogans against AAP's sacked leader Sandeep Kumar.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was jostled by protestors belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party at a railway station in the Capital on Thursday, reported ANI. Following the incident, the Aam Aadmi Party accused the Delhi Police of “compromising” the security of the party chief.
The incident took place when Kejriwal was boarding a train to Ludhiana for his three-day visit to Punjab. The AAP called it a “huge security breach” and said the police “leaked” his schedule, The Indian Express reported.
The visuals from the platform show Kejriwal surrounded by the saffron party's women workers who raised slogans against sacked party minister Sandeep Kumar. The former minister in the Kejriwal Cabinet was arrested on rape charges on September 4. Policemen are seen in the video pushing the protesters away.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the entire episode was planned. He tweeted, "Why did this happen despite the police being informed about the chief minister's schedule? It is obvious that this was planned.”
According to NDTV, the Delhi Police had cited jurisdiction issues and said that they will not be able to provide security to Kejriwal during his Punjab tour. A senior official had told PTI, "We have not refused him security. As per the security norms, if he travels by train or car, we are supposed to drop him at the first destination in that state and after that, the state police takes over."
The AAP chief will tour Punjab, where elections will be held next year. He is scheduled to visit Ludhiana, Patiala and Moga.
