Navjot Kaur Sidhu resigns from BJP, calls it a dictatorship
Her husband, Navjot Singh Sudhu also put in his formal resignation from the party, days after he launched his new political front 'Awaaz-e-Punjab'.
Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Wednesday resigned from party saying it was not letting her work on the problems her constituency is facing, reported ANI. "This is not a democracy, this is a dictatorship. If I raise social issues, how is it an anti-party activity?" she said. She had earlier said that she will resign from the party after her term is completed if the saffron party decides to continue its alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal.
Her husband and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu also formally resigned from the party with her, days after he launched his new political platform, Awaaz-e-Punjab. At the launch event in Chandigarh, Navjot Singh Sidhu had called it "the resurrection and the revival" of the state. Singh had resigned from the Rajya Sabha, where he was an MP on a BJP ticket, on July 18.
The political futures of the two Sidhus have been the subject of a great deal of speculation since Navjot Singh stepped down from his Rajya Sabha post. Initially there were rumours that they would both join the Aam Aadmi Party. Later, there were talks that Navjot Kaur would remain with the BJP even as her husband started his own front.
