At least five Central Reserve Police Force jawans were injured when suspected militants hurled a grenade near Wanpoh village of Anantnag district in south Kashmir on Monday, reported PTI. The five officers, all of whom received splinter injuries, were taken to a local hospital.

The police told IANS that the attackers missed their target and the grenade exploded on the side of the road. The militants reportedly hurled the grenade at an army vehicle ferrying CRPF men on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, reported Greater Kashmir. Security forces have cordoned off the area and are searching for the attackers.

The state has been affected by violence and normal life has been disrupted for more than two months. The situation has also led to the deterioration of ties between India and Pakistan as India alleges Islamabad’s influence in the issue, and Pakistan has called for plebiscites in the region. Relations between the two neighbours worsened after a militant attack on an Indian Army base killed 18 soldiers on September 18 in the Uri sector of the state.
