Asaram rape case: Man accused of murdering key witness granted bail by Gujarat High Court
The victim and witness, Amrut Prajapati, had worked as the self-styled godman's doctor at his ashram.
The Gujarat High Court on Monday granted bail to a man arrested for the murder of a key witness in a rape case connected to self-styled godman Asaram. The court released Basavraj Avanna Talloi on the grounds that he was not named in the victim’s dying declaration, PTI reported. As many as 11 witnesses in rape cases against Asaram have been murdered.
The victim, Amrut Prajapati, was shot dead in Rajkot in 2014. He had worked as Asaram’s personal doctor at the godman’s ashram in Motera, Gujarat. The case pertains to complaints filed against Asaram by two sisters in Surat, who accused him of sexual assault and rape between 1997 and 2006, when they lived at his ashram.
Asaram is currently in Jodhpur jail, in connection with a separate rape case that was filed against him.
