Mumbai traffic police on Friday will conduct the trial run of its one-of-a-kind breathalysers that can record the offender's details for future reference, reported the Times of India. Equipped with such hi-tech 56 breathalysers, the traffic police are confident that they will be able to curb drunk driving and reduce the number of road accidents during Christmas and New Year.

The breathalysers have built-in cameras and printers, and it will automatically update the database of drunk-driving cases in the central server. Joint commissioner of police (traffic) Milind Bharambe said, "The results of every individual will be recorded so it will avoid manipulation of results.” He added that the devices will be used across the city.

The Kolkata Police are also mulling starting a trial run for similar breathalyzers. The punishment for being caught driving under influence is Rs 5,000 and two years imprisonment for first time offenders. A repeat offender might have to shell out Rs 10,000 and face four years in prison if caught breaking the law within three years of being caught the first time.
