British Prime Minister Theresa May will visit India on a trade mission between November 6 and 8, Reuters reported. This will be her maiden bilateral visit to the country since she took charge as the prime minister of the United Kingdom after Brexit on July 13. She will lead a delegation of small and medium-size businesses.

Her visit is part of England’s efforts to strengthen trade ties with countries outside the European Union. In a statement, the prime minister’s office said the visit was meant to forge a new global role for Britain after it's exit from the EU bloc. May said, "As we embark on the trade mission to India we will send the message that the UK will be the most passionate, most consistent, and most convincing advocate for free trade."

May said she chose her delegation with the intention to promote small and medium-size businesses in the country, while similar trade missions in the past had mainly focused on big businesses. The prime minister’s delegation includes Geolang, a cyber security company based in Cardiff in Wales, Torftech, a biomass energy company based in southeast England, and Telensa, a company focused on high-tech wireless street lighting systems, based in Cambridge.
