Google Search to let users compare rates, book Ola, Uber cabs from mobile browser
Users will be redirected to the app of the taxi-aggregation company whose service they choose.
Users of Google Search on mobile will now be able to compare rates and book taxis from Ola or Uber, The Hindu reported on Wednesday. The new function, already present in Google Maps, will show taxi aggregator results when people search for locations or directions to that location, according to the report.
“They will get to see a tab for ride services, both Uber and Ola, with fare estimates and pick-up times if a car is available,” the company said in a statement. Users will then be redirected to the app of the cab aggregator whose service they choose. They will also be shown an installation link if the app is not present on their device.
“Our aim is to help users simplify their everyday travel,” Google Programme Manager Sanket Gupta said. The move will let people compare rates in Google’s own search window as opposed to opening the apps of both aggregators. The California-based technology giant offers the comparison and booking service in other countries as well.
