Six people injured during cross-border firing in Jammu's RS Pura sector, say BSF personnel
A security official said the Indian Army gave a 'befitting reply' to the 'unprovoked' breach by Pakistan.
At least six members of a family were injured in cross-border firing that the Border Security Force said was a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir's RS Pura sector on Tuesday. Border Security Force personnel said this is Islamabad's second ceasefire violation along the Line of Control in the area in two days, The Financial Express reported.
An official said, “From 10am, the Pakistani Army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations along the Line of Control in Noushera sector of Rajouri district by targeting our positions with mortar bombs and small arms fire," the English daily reported. The official said Indian security forces gave a "befitting reply".
An eight-year-old boy and a Border Security Force soldier were killed during cross-border firing in the sector on Sunday. Pakistan reported the death of two civilians, including a one-year-old, during the exchange of fire on Sunday. Several cases of injuries were reported on both sides of the international border.
India has said that there has been an increase in ceasefire violations after it carried out surgical strikes on “terror launchpads” along the Line of Control on September 29. Officials reported breaches on October 3, 4 and 5 along the border in the region. On September 18, militants had attacked an Indian Army installation in Uri, killing 19 soldiers. India had accused Pakistan of being involved in the attack, but Islamabad has dismissed the allegations as “baseless”.
