The moon will appear in its largest and brightest form in almost seven decades on November 14. Referred to as the “supermoon”, astronomers said the phenomenon is a result of the moon’s position being at its closest to the Earth since 1948.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration officials told Reuters that the celestial body would appear almost 14% larger and 30% brighter than average as it would be 35,400 km closer than its usual distance.

NASA scientists said that while supermoons occur once every 13 months, November’s phenomenon is unique as it will be the biggest so far in the 21st century, CNN reported. The next time a full moon comes as close to Earth will be in 2034. Observers in India can witness the ocurrence at 7.22pm on Monday.
