AAP's Bhagwant Mann will contest 2017 Punjab elections against Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal
The legislator was suspended from the Lok Sabha for live-streaming the security arrangements in Parliament in July.
Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced the candidature of party leader Bhagwant Mann against Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal in the 2017 state Assembly elections, ANI reported. Mann was suspended from the Lok Sabha for live-streaming the security arrangements in Parliament in July.
The Lok Sabha panel formed to look into the case found the legislator guilty of compromising security. Mann drew criticism for live-streaming a Parliament session on Facebook on July 21. The video reportedly showed the approach to the premises of the building, the security pickets and internal security positions. Although Mann held that his act was unintentional, he apologised to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan after the incident.
A few Lok Sabha MPs had also demanded that Mann be sent to a rehabilitation centre to deal with his alleged drug and alcohol addiction problem. BJP’s Maheish Girri, Shiromani Akali Dal’s Prem Singh Chandumajra and suspended AAP MP Harinder Singh Khalsa had urged Mahajan to not allow Mann to attend Parliament sessions until he was given clean chit from a rehab.
