At midnight on Monday, the Airports Authority of India will stop the free car parking provision it had introduced at all airports in view of the Centre’s demonetisation programme, ANI reported. The panel will introduce a digital payment mechanism to facilitate the government’s initiative to transform India into a cashless economy and curb black money.

Users will now have to make payments using their debit/credit cards, Paytm, freecharge or other digital payment methods from midnight on Monday, an official statement said.

On November 14, the Civil Aviation Ministry had announced the suspension of parking charges at airports across the country till midnight on November 21 to ensure minimum inconvenience to passengers, ANI reported. The move followed the Centre’s relaxation of various conditions under its demonetisation scheme.
