The Centre has decided to form a committee of five chief ministers who will suggest measures to address the issues pertaining to demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is likely to head the panel, reported PTI. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley reportedly spoke to him about this over phone on Monday afternoon.

The other members of the panel have not yet been decided. The group of chief ministers will look into the problems that people are facing and suggest steps to resolve those. More details about the panel are still awaited.

Naidu had asked the Centre to demonetise the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes to curb corruption in October after a person from Hyderabad had declared Rs 10,000 crore under the Income Declaration Scheme. Following the decision to demonetise the high-value notes, Naidu has only opposed to the introduction of the Rs 2,000 note.

It was Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao who had proposed setting up of a panel of chief ministers, reported The New Indian Express. Rao had asked the Centre to take the chief ministers into their confidence and allow them to help resolve issues on the ground.
