British Indian music composer Shri Sriram won the prestigious British Composer Award in the “Wind Band or Brass Band” category for his album Just A Vibration. He was shortlisted for the award with Japanese composer Fumiko Miyachi and British composer Nigel Clarke.

Sriram designed and handcrafted his fretless bass guitar, his trademark instrument. He had taught himself to play bass, guitar and flute, besides being a trained classical tabla player. He grew up in Mumbai and later moved to London, where he collaborated as a bass player with DJ Badmash.

He has composed tunes for plays, films and advertisements and also won a number of awards. Sriram had composed the promo tune for Ang Lee’s Life of Pi.

Just A Vibration draws its inspiration from Indian classical tabla, sitar, jazz and club music. The album, which was recorded with Hammonds Saltaire Brass band, premiered on September 5, 2015, in the United Kingdom.

The highly respected British Composer Awards promotes composers and sound artists and helps them bring their music to a wider audience.
