Pakistan's ISI gets new director general in a major reshuffle by Army chief
Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar has extensive experience in the field of intelligence and has served as the chief of the agency’s counter-terrorism wing in Islamabad.
Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence chief, Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar, has been removed from his post in a major reshuffle carried out by the country’s new Army chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa (pictured above). He will be replaced by Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, reported Dawn.
Lt Gen Mukhtar has extensive experience in the field of intelligence and has served as the chief of the agency’s counter-terrorism wing in Islamabad. The new Army chief made several other changes, including appointment of Lt Gen Akhtar as the president of the National Defence University, while his predecessor was made Corps Commander Peshawar (11Corps), replacing Lt Gen Hidayat-ur Rehman. Lt Gen Bilal Akbar was announced the new Chief of General Staff, reported PTI.
Seven senior Army officers of the rank of general were also promoted on December 9. Gen Bajwa took charge as the 16th Chief of Army Staff on November 29. He has experience in handling Kashmir northern areas of the country.
