Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday alleged that two Union Ministers had “engineered the revolt” within the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. “I will take names at the appropriate time,” Swamy told CNN-News18.

Swamy said although BJP had no stand in the Tamil Nadu political crisis, two Union ministers were “trying to foment trouble by propping up O Panneerselvam”. Swamy also said Tamil Nadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao had failed to perform his duty.

Swamy claimed that Panneerselvam did not have the support of enough MLAs to stake claim to form the government. He said if OPS failed to prove his majority to the governor, Edapadi K Palanisamy should be appointed chief minister of Tamil Nadu. AIADMK MLAs supporting VK Sasikala on Tuesday elected Tamil Nadu Cabinet minister Palanisamy the new legislative leader of the party.

Swamy also welcomed the Supreme Court judgement convicting AIADMK chief VK Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case. The complaint against late Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa and Sasikala was first filed by Swamy in 1996.

Palanisamy met Governor Rao on Tuesday evening and claimed to have the support of 126 MLAs. He has handed over the list of MLAs to the governor, reported India Today. However, Panneerselvam has sought time to prove majority and two members from his camp are set to meet Governor Rao soon.

Sasikala was sentenced to prison for four years in the case by the Supreme Court earlier on Tuesday and will not be able to stand for elections for six years after she is released from jail. She will serve three years and six months in jail as she had already served six months in 2014.
