Thane Police on Saturday arrested 18 people in connection with allegedly leaking the Army recruitment examination question paper. Raids were also conducted in Nashik, Nagpur, Pune and Goa based on a tip-off.
Around 200 people were also detained for attempting to buy the question paper, The Indian Express reported. Students were reportedly paying up to Rs 2 lakh for the examination questions. The exam was held on Sunday morning.
The examination was cancelled in some centres including Kamptee, Nagpur, Ahmednagar, Ahmedabad, Goa and Kirkee. Investigations are on, and according to some reports, a few Army staffers were also involved in the question paper leak. The Army has ordered an internal inquiry.
Senior Police Inspector of Thane Crime Branch Unit-I, Niteen Thackeray, told The Indian Express that students were given the papers by some people who run coaching institutes.
