The police on Wednesday arrested two Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activists for allegedly attacking All India Students Association members at Delhi University on Tuesday, PTI reported. The two activists – Prashant Mishra, president of Students’ Union at Sri Venkateswara College, and Vinayak Sharma from the same college – were suspended by the ABVP.

The duo were caught on camera attacking AISA members on Tuesday near Khalsa College. Raj Singh and Utkarsh Bhardwaj, AISA members, had alleged that they were strangulated with belts by Mishra and his friends.

Mishra and Sharma were detained on Tuesday night. ABVP spokesperson Saket Bahuguna said the two members were suspended from the party for their “act of indiscipline”. “An interim inquiry has been ordered to take further action,” Bahuguna said according to NDTV. However, ABVP member Prasanna Vaidya alleged that the members of both parties attacked each other and there is video footage to establish that.

The Delhi University Student Union on Tuesday had staged an anti-ABVP march from the Arts Faculty of the North Campus. The ABVP, on its part, will be organising a peaceful demonstration on Thursday to restore peace on the campus, ANI reported.
