At least one person was killed and 15 others were injured after a gunman opened fire in a club in Ohio’s Cincinnati, United States, early on Sunday, local TV station WLWT5 reported. The wounded, several of whom sustained life-threatening injuries, were being treated at nearby medical centres, Assistant Police Chief Paul Neudigate said. The police are hunting for the shooter.

The shooting was reported at Cameo Nightclub a little after 1 am. “We are in the middle of a very horrific situation that occurred at the nightclub with multiple victims,” Neudigate said. There were hundreds of people inside the club when the firing began, the officer added.

Several revellers fled the scene, but those who have been identified are being interviewed, Neudigate said. The police have yet to identify the shooter. But they told NBC that so far, there were no signs to indicate that the incident was related to terrorism.

In June last year, Florida resident Omar Mateen had opened fire inside Pulse nightclub in Orlando, killing 49 people and injuring 53 others. The Islamic State group had claimed responsibility for the shooting. Mateen was gunned down by the police inside the club, which had witnessed the deadliest mass shooting in United States history.
