Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna died in Mumbai on Thursday at the age of 70. The MP had advanced bladder cancer.

Earlier in April, Mumbai’s HN Reliance Foundation Hospital had said the Bharatiya Janata Party’s parliamentarian from Gurdaspur, Punjab, had been admitted to the institute on March 31 with severe dehydration, but was stable. Since news about his treatment surfaced, reports suggested that he was suffering from cancer, but neither his family nor doctors confirmed this.

A major star in the 1970s and ’80s, he had featured in films such as Amar, Akbar, Anthony, Insaaf, Imtihaan, Qurbaani and Lahu ke Do Rang. He last starred in Dilwale alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.

Khanna received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for Haath Ki Safaai. He was honoured with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999 and again in 2007 at the Zee Cine Awards.

‘Baahubali 2’ premiere cancelled:

Soon after Khanna’s death, filmmaker Karan Johar announced on Twitter that “as a mark of respect”, the entire team of Baahubali - The Conclusion had decided to cancel movie’s premiere that was scheduled for Thursday evening.

“His screen presence is unparalleled even today...His superstar swag is what we grew up on....RIP Vinod Khanna,” Johar said on Twitter. The film will release in theatres on Friday.
