Four Congress legislators from Manipur switched camps to join the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday, reported ANI. Chief Minister N Biren Singh and state unit president K Bhabanada were present at their felicitation at the BJP office in Imphal.

“Warm welcome to the 4 Congress MLAs in joining the BJP today trusting the party and our government and the leadership of Narendra Modi Ji,” the chief minister said. With Y Surchandra, Ngamthang Haokip, O Lukhoi and S Bira joining the saffron camp on Friday, the Congress has lost six legislators to the BJP in the recent past, reported IANS.

T Shyamkumar left the Congress after the BJP formed a government in the state after the Assembly elections. He was made a Cabinet minister on March 15. On April 18, Congress MLA Ginsuanhau Zou and 14 party workers joined the BJP.

The Congress had emerged the single largest party by winning 28 seats in the 60-seat Assembly, though it is now down to 22. The BJP had formed government in the state with the support of MLAs from the National People’s Party, Naga People’s Front, the Lok Janshakti Party, an independent MLA, a Trinamool Congress MLA and former Congress MLA Shyam Kumar.
