Mumbai’s Elphinstone Road station has officially been renamed ‘Prabhadevi’
The Central government had approved the Western Railway’s recommendation for the change in June.
Western Railway has officially renamed the Elphinstone Road railway station in Mumbai to ‘Prabhadevi’, the Hindustan Times reported on Tuesday. The Western Railway also revised Elphinstone Road’s station code to PBHD and numeric code to 08127027.
The station’s name has been changed based on a demand by the Shiv Sena. On Sunday, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station was renamed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus after a similar call by the party. CST was called Victoria Terminus until 1996.
The Central government had approved the recommendations for both the name changes in June. The recommendations were unanimously passed through a resolution by the Maharashtra Assembly during its winter session in December.
The demand for a change in the name of Elphinstone Road station had first been made by Shiv Sena leader Divakar Raote in 1991, Lokmat reported.
