Facebook on Thursday launched its Messenger Lite app for Android users in India. Similar to its Facebook Lite app, Messenger Lite is optimised to work on old or entry-level smartphones as well as on slow internet speeds.

Messenger Lite was launched in October 2016 in five regions. The 10MB app comes with most of the features of the Messenger app, besides making video calls and sending Facebook friends money, a feature that is available only in select countries.

Neither Facebook Lite nor Messenger Lite is available for iPhone users yet.
