Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said that the police officer, whose prison report exposed the special treatment being meted out to All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief VK Sasikala inside a Bengaluru jail, will face action for taking her findings to the media. He claimed that speaking to the press about the report repeatedly was against service rules.

However, Karnataka Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) D Roopa, who inspected the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru on July 10, said that targeting her in this regard was unfair. “If action is to be taken, it should be against all and not just me,” she told ANI. “Let there be a fair probe. I will cooperate.”

She further claimed that DG (Prisons) HS Sathyanarayana Rao, whom she had accused in her report of making special arrangements for Sasikala, had leaked the details to the media. “So [charge of violation of] service rules should apply to all and not one.”

The report claims that Sasikala paid Rs 2 crore in bribe to senior police officers for preferential treatment at the Bengaluru central jail. Rao has been accused of providing the AIADMK leader with special facilities such as deputing inmates to cook food for her in a special kitchen set up for her.

The prison report has been submitted to the Karnataka government, additional chief secretary (home), the Anti-Corruption Bureau, the state inspector general of police and Rao himself. Siddaramaiah had ordered an inquiry into the allegations.
