The special session of the Nagaland Assembly, which was called for Chief Minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu to face a floor test, was adjourned sine die on Wednesday after the Naga People’s Front leader did not show up, ANI reported. Governor PB Acharya had asked Speaker Imtiwapang to convene the session for Liezietsu to prove his majority in the House.

Acharya’s direction came after the Kohima bench of the Guwahati High Court dismissed the chief minister’s plea seeking a stay on the governor’s earlier order calling for a floor test. On July 12, Leizeitsu had turned down Acharya’s order, saying that the governor did not have a say in the party’s internal affairs.

The governor had ordered Leizeitsu to prove his majority in the Assembly after former Chief Minister TR Zeliang claimed that he had the support of 44 of the 59 MLAs in the Nagaland Assembly.
