Nifty closes flat after touching 10,000-mark record high, Sensex ends lower
Sustained capital inflows and widespread buying by retail investors led to the early morning rally.
After breaching the 10,000 mark for the very first time, equity benchmark index National Stock Exchange Nifty closed lower by 1.85 points at 9,964.55 on Tuesday. The broader index had opened at 10,010.55. The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex, which had opened 100 points higher to hit a high of 32,350, too, was down 17.60 points at 32,228.27.
On the NSE index, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, Vedanta and Indiabulls Housing were the best performers, whereas Lupin, Tata Motors DVR, Zee Entertainment and UltraTech Cement trailed.

The top five gainers on the Sensex were Hero MotoCorp, Tata Steel, and Bharti Airtel. Lupin, Cipla, Wipro, and HCL were the worst performers.
