Landslides kill at least five in South Sikkim, two injured
Several roads were damaged and a few were blocked by debris in West Sikkim district.
Landslides caused by incessant rainfall killed at least five people and injured two others in Sikkim on Wednesday, PTI reported. Two people died after a house caved in because of a mudslide in the Upper Bokrong ward around 3 am.
In another incident, three people were killed under the debris of a landslide in the Upper Gurpisey area, IANS reported. Two others were injured in the incident.
The landslides damaged many roads in South Sikkim. Senior Superintendent of Police Pratap Pradhan said a control room had been set up at the Namchi Police Station to take stock of the situation.
Additional Director General of Police Sudhakar Rao said restoration work was on. A few roads in West Sikkim district were also blocked because of the landslides.
