Two civilians were killed and 30 others were injured in a grenade blast near a bus stand in Tral in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday, the police said. Some media reports had earlier put the toll at three.

The injured include seven personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force, two policemen and 21 civilians.

The attack took place when the suspected militants hurled the grenade at the convoy of Public Works Minister Naeem Akthar near the bus stand. Akthar was in the town to inaugurate a project. Some shots were fired in the air to prevent any further attack, said Superintendent of Police Zahid Malik.

The local legislator, Mushtaq Ahmed, had earlier confirmed the attack to Kashmir Reader, and said he was safe. Many vehicles part of the convoy were hit by bullets, local sources said.

“I am profoundly shocked that they chose to target us when we were trying to speed up development of Tral constituency,” Akhtar told PTI. His driver is reportedly among the injured.
