Several parts of Bengaluru were waterlogged and commuters were left stranded on Thursday, after the city received 65.2 mm rain within eight hours, The News Minute reported. The worst hit areas in the city included Koramangala, Electronics City and Whitefield, which were left flooded after torrential rain.

Bengaluru is experiencing an extremely heavy monsoon this year. The India Meteorological Department predicted more rainfall up to October 9 in south interior Karnataka, including the Capital city, The Times of India reported.

Rescue personnel had to ferry away passengers stranded on buses and auto rickshaws on the Electronic City Road, The News Minute reported. Metro commuters were stranded at Nayandahalli metro station in waist-level water on Mysuru Road.

A few trees were uprooted due to strong winds that accompanied the rain. Traffic movement was affected for hours, including the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway near Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences that was water logged.

“On Thursday and Friday, there will be isolated but heavy rainfall in these parts,” Indian Meteorological Department Director (Bengaluru) Sundar Metri told The Times of India. “On the third day, there will be scattered rainfall, and on the fourth and fifth days there will be fairly widespread rainfall.”
