Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday told the Bengaluru Municipal Corporation to repair all potholes on the city’s roads within 10 days, NDTV reported. “All potholes should be filled up or else we will investigate and take action against the people responsible,” said the chief minister.

The order comes a day after a 47-year-old woman was crushed to death when the two-wheeler that she was riding pillion was knocked down by a truck. The rider, in a bid to avoid a pothole, had swerved, leading to the accident. Siddaramaiah and Bengaluru Mayor Sampath Raj had visited the spot where Radha Ajanappa was killed.

With this, three people have died in accidents this month because of the condition the city’s roads are in. On October 2, a bus had run over Anthony Joseph and his wife Sagai Mary when they were trying to avoid a pothole on the Mysuru Road flyover.

The civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has blamed the frequent rain and flooding for bad roads. On October 4, it had said that Bengaluru’s roads have 15,935 potholes. But, it added, that the potholes could be fixed only after the rain stops.
