A mob allegedly dragged a Muslim man out of a hotel room in Rajasthan’s Barmer district and assaulted him for being with a Hindu woman, The Indian Express reported.

“The woman’s relatives arrived at the hotel in Balotra soon after the two checked in,” the newspaper quoted Barmer’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Kailashdan Ratnoo, as saying.

The hotel manager, Multan Parihar, said Padu Khan arrived with a middle-aged woman around 10 am. Half-an-hour later, five people who said they were the woman’s relatives came. Parihar said he left the room after the men said they would resolve the matter among themselves. “My staff then told me that a mob had gathered outside. They dragged Khan out,” Parihar told the newspaper.

According to reports, the mob had men from the Shiv Sena party. They were chanting ‘Jai Sri Ram’ while beating up Khan.

The police said the mob had left by the time they reached the hotel, the Hindustan Times reported. Barmer Additional Superintendent of Police Kailash Dan Ratnu told the newspaper that the victim was conscious and refused to lodge a complaint. “The hotel management also did not lodge a complaint,” Ratnu said.
