Mumbai: Portion of foot overbridge at Charni Road station collapses, one injured
An official said the structure was old, and the civic body was reconstructing it.
A 67-year-old man was injured in Mumbai after a portion of a foot overbridge at the Charni Road station fell on Saturday, PTI reported. A day earlier, a woman was injured at the Elphinstone Road station after a ceiling tile from a foot overbridge fell on her head.
The incidents comes just weeks after a stampede on an overbridge at the Elphinstone Road station killed 23 people.
The cause of Saturday’s collapse is unclear. The injured man – identified as Dindore Dixit – was taken to the nearby Saifee Hospital and is out of danger, The Indian Express reported.
An unidentified official told PTI that the bridge was old, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was reconstructing it.
Last week, the Western Railway had cleared its officials and blamed rain, panic and rumours for the stampede between Mumbai’s Elphinstone Road and Parel railway stations. It also recommended measures such as relocating the booking counter, regulating vendors’ entry during rush hours and installing more CCTV cameras.
