India’s benchmark indices closed almost flat on Tuesday, as investors remained cautious ahead of key corporate results expected later in the day. The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex fell 24.48 points or 0.08% to close at 32,609.16 points. The National Stock Exchange Nifty50 rose just 3.60 points to finish at 10,234.45.

Wipro and Axis Bank will release their second-quarter results later on Tuesday.

The top five gainers on the Sensex were Cipla, Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto and Hero Motocorp. The major losers were Axis Bank, Tata Motors, Infosys, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Kotak Mahindra.

On the Nifty50, shares of Cipla, BPCL, Bharti Airtel, Indiabulls Housing Finance and HPCL were the best performers. The top five losers were Zee Entertainment, Axis Bank, Tata Motors, Bajaj Finance and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories.

Other Asian markets had a mixed day. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose over 80 points. But the Hong Kong and Shanghai indices traded flat, and the Taiwan TSEC 50 Index lost 51 points on Tuesday.

The rupee had opened at 64.80 against the US dollar. At 3.57 pm, the home currency was trading at 64.92, down from its Wednesday’s close of 64.72.
