Four unidentified men shot dead the district president of the Hindu Sangharsh Sena in Amritsar’s Bharat Nagar area on Monday, IANS reported. The attack on Vipin Sharma was recorded on CCTV camera.

However, no arrests have been made yet. The footage from the cameras had been procured, and the police were trying to ascertain the identity of the accused through sketches, Amritsar Commissioner of Police SS Srivastava said to PTI.

After the attack, Sharma was taken to the Escort Hospital where a team of doctors declared him brought dead. Hospital Director HP Singh said, “There were around 15 injury marks on the body, including eight bullet marks.”

Commissioner of Police Srivastava said the exact number of bullets used to kill Sharma could be ascertained only after the post-mortem report, but that at least 12 bullets had hit the Hindu outfit’s leader.

The police are yet to confirm the motive of the attack. “It is a targeted killing and we are verifying all the aspects particularly a past threat perception if any,” said Srivastava.

The attack comes just two weeks after a Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh leader, Ravinder Gosai, was shot dead outside his house in Ludhiana. Punjab Hindu Sangharsh Sena Vice President Rajesh Palta alleged that the killing of Hindu leaders in the state indicated that militancy had once again been revived in Punjab.
