Bhopal: Four men arrested for allegedly abducting and raping a 19-year-old student
The woman was returning home after a coaching class when the accused abducted her.
Four men have been arrested in Bhopal for allegedly abducting and raping a 19-year-old woman on Tuesday night, police said on Thursday. The woman was returning home after a coaching class, when the men took her near the railway tracks and allegedly raped her, PTI reported.
“The matter has come to our knowledge and a case of gangrape has been lodged,” News18 quoted Government Railway Police Superintendent of Poice Anita Malviya as saying. “We did not waste any time and lodged a complaint within half an hour. The matter is still being investigated.”
Media reports, however, claimed otherwise. When the woman went to file a complaint, a Government Railway Police officer reportedly mocked her for “coming with a filmy story”, according to The Times of India.
One of the four accused is a habitual offender and has a murder case against him, News18 reported.
Police registered the complaint after the parents of the woman reportedly caught two of the accused themselves. The accused were booked under Section 376(D) (gangrape), and Section 34 (acts done by several persons for common intention) on the Indian Penal Code.
