Ranji Trophy game in Delhi halted after man drives car onto pitch
The incident occurred during a game between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh at the Air Force Sports Complex in Palam.
Breaching security, a man drove a car onto the pitch at the Air Force Sports Complex in Palam, New Delhi during a Ranji Trophy game between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, ESPNCricinfo reported.
According to the report, the man, identified as Girish Sharma, claimed to have not spotted security and said he was “lost”.
The man, though, made several attempts to deliberately drive onto the pitch, the report added.
The incident occurred at 20 minutes prior to the close of play. The match, though, resumed after a brief break after match officials deemed the pitch “playable”. An extra half hour was added in the end to make up for lost time.
International players like Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma and Rishabh Pant were part of the teams and were present at the ground during the incident.
