Actor Dileep wants CBI to investigate assault case against him, claims he was framed by the police
He named two senior police officials in his 12-page letter to the Kerala home secretary, accusing them of implicating him based on ‘fabricated evidence’.
Malayalam actor Dileep, accused of abducting and assaulting an actress in February, has written to the Kerala home secretary, asking for the Central Bureau of Investigation to take over the inquiry, The Hindu reported. The case is currently being investigated by a special investigation team of the police.
In a 12-page letter sent on October 18, the actor claimed that the current investigators had not done a free and fair job.
He said e has been “framed” by senior police officials, according to PTI. He named two senior police officials in his letter, and said they were implicating him in the case based on fabricated evidence, The Hindu reported. Either they should be replaced, or the CBI must take over, he has said.
The actor was in judicial custody since July 10, and released on bail on October 3.
The case
On February 17, a group of men had allegedly waylaid a woman actor’s vehicle in Ernakulam’s Angamaly. They were then said to have taken photos of her to blackmail her with as they assaulted her, and later fled with the car. Reports have said that Dileep had planned the attack on the woman as payback for a personal grudge. Several artists from the film industry have condemned him and have supported the woman actor.
