Vladimir Putin says he is worried the US may ‘cause problems’ in the 2018 Russian election
The Russian president said America may interfere in the polls as a reaction to Moscow’s alleged meddling in the US election.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said he is worried that the United States might “cause problems” in the 2018 Russian presidential election, Russia Today reported. “In response to our alleged interference in their election, the Americans want to create problems with the presidential election in Russia,” Putin said.
He also claimed that the US may try to create a certain “disgruntled” atmosphere in the sports community by using its “broad connections and dependency” mechanisms in the 2018 Winter Olympics Committee. Since the Winter Olympics in South Korea coincide with the Russian presidential election, this could create problems for Moscow.
Putin is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump in Vietnam on Friday.
The US has accused Russia of interfering in its presidential election in 2016. Investigators alleged that Trump’s election campaign had colluded with Russia, and the president is being investigated for obstruction of justice.
