Delhi HC asks Telecom Ministry, Vodafone to reply to Mukul Roy’s phone tapping allegations
The BJP leaders told the court that his conversations on four mobile numbers and a landline were being intercepted.
The Delhi High Court on Monday issued notices to the Telecom Ministry, the West Bengal government and service provider Vodafone after Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mukul Roy alleged his phones were being tapped by the West Bengal government and asked for an investigation. The High Court gave all three parties time till December 7 to file their replies.
On November 17, Roy had moved the Delhi High Court asking for an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Roy, a former Trinamool Congress MP, joined the BJP on November 3.
Roy claimed four of his mobile phone numbers and one landline phone were being tapped. “My movements were constantly tracked during my stay in Kolkata, Delhi and Gujarat,” he told News18. “Even Trinamool Congress leaders are under the scanner and state agencies are tapping their phones,” he said.
Roy told the court telecom service providers MTNL and Vodafone should also be asked to show if the Centre or state government issued orders to intercept his conversations.
