The two jawans have been charged with criminal conspiracy.
Police on Friday arrested two more Tripura State Rifles personnel in connection with the killing of local journalist Sudip Datta Bhaumik in Agartala on November 21, PTI reported on Saturday. Southern Range Deputy Inspector General Arindam Nath told the agency that the two personnel have been charged with criminal conspiracy and remanded in police custody for seven days.
Nayek Amit Debbarma and rifleman Dharmendra Kumar Singh were arrested on Friday night and produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Sharmishtha Mukherjee. With the duo’s arrest, four personnel have now been held for the murder of Bhaumik.
The police had arrested battalion commandant Tapan Debbarma and his personal security guard Nanda Reang, who allegedly fired the shots at the journalist, on November 22. The Left government in Tripura had transferred the case from the district police to the Crime Investigation Department of the state police.
Journalists’ organisations in Tripura had protested in front of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s residence on November 22 against Bhaumik’s murder.
