Staff member at another Kolkata school arrested for alleged sexual assault of three-year-old
The girl’s parents claimed that the incidents had happened in June and September and that the MP Birla School had not taken any action.
A staff member of Kolkata’s MP Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School was arrested late on Monday for the alleged sexual assault of a three-year-old twice earlier this year. The girl’s parents claimed that the incidents had happened in June and September and the school had not taken any action, The Telegraph reported.
The man, a member of the school’s cleaning staff, was arrested after several parents gathered outside the school campus, demanding the resignation of the school’s principal. Soon after parents began their protest, the school suspended the staff member and he was arrested later in the day.
The agitation came in the wake of another incident of sexual assault of a child at Kolkata’s GD Birla Centre for Education last week, after which two teachers were arrested within a day.
GD Birla school principal questioned
Sharmila Nath, the principal of GD Birla Centre for Education, was questioned by police on Tuesday after parents complained that they had got a letter from her, in which she named the girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by the two teachers.
Nath had written the letter to nearly 4,000 parents to explain why the school was closed indefinitely, NDTV reported. In a sentence where she said the case was under investigation, she disclosed the name of the child, which is illegal. A school spokesperson told Deccan Chronicle that it was an “accident, resulting out of the stress that every person is in due to the situation”.
The father of the child has demanded the principal’s arrest. Parents also alleged that Nath was aware of the crime and had tried to conceal it.
Parents had staged a road blockade on Sunday in protest against the institute’s decision to remain closed for an unspecified period of time from Monday.
