Bengaluru: Ola cab driver allegedly traps woman in car by activating child lock, harasses her
The company said it had suspended the driver and promised to extend its support to the investigation against him.
An Ola driver allegedly harassed a 23-year-old fashion stylist travelling in his cab in Bengaluru on Sunday night, The New Indian Express reported on Tuesday.
The driver reportedly activated child lock in the cab and harassed her. The next day, he made several calls and also threatened her with dire consequences because she had complained to the cab aggregator company.
An Ola spokesperson said that the company had suspended the driver from its platform and urged the woman to file a police complaint, according to ANI.
“We regret the unfortunate experience the customer had during their ride. We have zero tolerance to such incidents,” the spokesperson said. “Safety of customers is our priority and we will continue to extend our full support to this investigation against the said driver.”
Around 10.30 pm on Sunday, the woman was travelling alone from the Indiranagar area to BTM Layout in an Ola cab driven by Rajashekhar Reddy, she said. Once the vehicle reached the Intermediate Ring Road on the way to Koramangala, Reddy reportedly stopped the car and then tried to touch the woman inappropriately.
“There were no vehicles moving around the spot. I tried to exit the vehicle but he had engaged the child lock so that the doors would not open,” the woman added. She said that she was let out only after she began to bang on the windows. Reddy allegedly followed her even after she got out of the vehicle and ran about 500 metres away.
