Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane’s father Madhukar Baburao Rahane was granted bail on Friday after being arrested for allegedly running over a woman with his car near Kolhapur.

The 67-year-old woman, identified as Ashatai Kamble, succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital, The Hindu reported.

The accident occurred on the national highway near Kagal bus station. The cricketer’s father, mother and sister were on their way to Tarkarli.

“The woman was apparently standing in the middle of the road when Mr Rahane, unable to swerve the car on time, rammed her,” the daily quoted an unidentified police officer as saying.

The Kagal Police registered a case under Sections 304 (a) (causing death by negligence), 289 (negligent conduct), 337, 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
