College attendant arrested for allegedly raping medical student in Bhubaneswar
The accused claimed he was being made a scapegoat for finding the woman ‘in a compromising position’ with another student near her hostel.
The police in Bhubaneswar arrested a college attendant on Wednesday for allegedly raping a first-year medical student of the private college he worked at on Tuesday night.
The accused, Manoj Khatua, denied the allegation and claimed he was being made a scapegoat for finding the woman “in a compromising position” with another student near her hostel, The Times of India reported.
In her complaint, the woman said she was speaking to the man near her hostel when the peon came up to them. “He hurled abuses and asked us to leave the place,” she said in her complaint. “My colleague left in his bike. I was walking towards my hostel when Khatua intercepted me.”
The accused, however, claimed that the two students had requested him to keep their secret and “promised they would never commit same thing in college campus”, PTI reported. “Later, I went to my room, but the police brought me here around 4 am today,” he said.
Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyabrata Bhoi told reporters that both the college attendant and the complainant underwent a medical examination.
