The mutilated body of a journalist was found on a roadside in Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri district early Thursday, the Hindustan Times reported. The police have formed a Special Investigation Team to look into the alleged murder of Rajesh Sheoran.

Sheoran was a freelance journalist and had earlier worked with Hindi dailies like Dainik Bhaskar, Hari Bhoomi and Patrika.

The police said they got information about the body at 1 am on Thursday morning, and identified it as Sheoran’s from an identity card in his pocket, The Times of India reported. Sources said Sheoran’s body seemed like it was crushed under the wheels of a vehicle.

Sheoran’s family said they did not know of anyone who may want to harm him. His uncle, Ajit Singh, said they last saw him on Tuesday evening when he went to Dadri with a friend for a monetary transaction with an unknown person, The Indian Express reported.

“We don’t know yet if he was killed by poisoning or shot dead,” Dadri Superintendent of Police Himanshu Garg told The Indian Express.

Sheoran is survived by his wife and three daughters.
