The police chief of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district escaped unhurt after suspected militants fired at his convoy on Saturday, PTI reported. Police officers retaliated to the firing, after which the militants fled, an official said.

Senior Superintendent of Police AS Dinkar was travelling with his convoy in the district’s Harmain area when he was attacked. Security forces have cordoned off the area, Greater Kashmir reported.

Balhama gunfight: Body of third militant found

Meanwhile, the body of a third suspected militant was found on Saturday at the site of a gunfight with security forces, which started in Pulwama district’s Balhama area on Thursday, ANI reported. The gunfight began after the suspected militants tried to snatch the weapon of a Bharatiya Janata Party leader’s personal security guard.

Two militants were killed in the gunfight by Friday. A soldier of the Central Reserve Police Force was injured, as well.

The suspected militants had tried to disarm constable Bilal Ahmad and two others guarding BJP leader Anwar Khan and fired at them. Ahmad injured his leg in the incident while Khan escaped unhurt.
