The party’s cadres will wave black flags when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Chennai on April 11.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will lead a shutdown across Tamil Nadu on April 5 to protest the Centre’s failure to form the Cauvery Management Board, the party’s working President MK Stalin said on Sunday.
Stalin made the announcement after an all-party meeting the DMK had called in Chennai, ANI reported. He also said his party’s cadres will wave black flags when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Chennai. Modi will be in the city on April 11, according to The Indian Express.
The ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has also decided to hold a hunger strike on April 2 in all districts of Tamil Nadu.
On February 16, the Supreme Court had ordered the Centre to set up the Cauvery board within six weeks to ensure that its ruling on the allocation of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka is implemented. The deadline expired on Thursday.
The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court against the central government. Representatives of a number of farmers’ associations have also called for a shutdown on April 11.
