At least 13 people were killed and 33 injured in an explosion at a mosque in Khost province on Sunday. The mosque was being used as a centre for registering voters, ToloNews reported.

Talib Mangal, a spokesperson for provincial Governor Hukam Khan Habibi, and Baser Bena, spokesperson for Khost police chief Abdul Mannan, confirmed the deaths, AP reported. However, no group has yet taken responsibility for the blast.

A suicide bombing at a voter registration facility in Kabul had killed at least 60 people in April. The Islamic State group had claimed responsibility for the attack. There have been at least seven attacks on election-related facilities in Afghanistan since April 14, when the voter registration process began, ToloNews said.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said on Sunday condemned the Khost explosion and said “enemies” cannot disturb the national election processes.
