A Delhi court on Monday convicted suspended Aam Aadmi Party MLA Devinder Sehrawat for flouting election rules while campaigning for the 2013 Assembly elections in the Capital, PTI reported. The court will announce the quantum of sentence on May 14.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal said the prosecution was able to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The police had filed a case against the Bijwasan MLA in October 2013, alleging that several pamphlets seeking votes for Sehrawat did not have the name of any publisher on them. Section 127A of the Representation of the People Act says that campaign posters and pamphlets must have the names and addresses of the printer and the publisher.

The 2013 Assembly elections in Delhi were the first time the Aam Aadmi Party contested polls and came into power with Arvind Kejriwal as chief minister.

In September 2016, the Aam Aadmi Party had suspended Sehrawat after he accused party leaders in Punjab of seeking sexual favours from women in return for election tickets.
